The Pennsylvania mother who abandoned her husband and two children to pursue a new life in Florida has been arrested on a parole violation regarding the theft of another woman’s driver’s license.
Brenda Heist simply disappeared in 2002 from her home in Lititz, Pennsylvania in the midst of a contentious divorce from her husband, who was originally considered a suspect in her disappearance.
When no trace of her could be found in coming years, her husband had her declared legally dead and moved on with his life with another marriage.
Heist has been in trouble with the law several times since going on the run, most recently for using the alias Kelsi Smith. She previously served jail time for drug use and for driving a vehicle that had expired registration tags. Heist had only been out of jail for less than a month when she failed to report to her parole officer as required and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Although she spent some of her time since leaving her family among the homeless, Heist was hired as a live-in housekeeper by a woman in Tarpon Springs who reports she was very surprised to find out she had hired a woman who was a runaway mother.
